The Kominka Collective works to preserve Japan’s traditional architecture by rescuing at-risk structures and giving them new life through sustainable disassembly, relocation, and adaptive reuse.
We are a not-for-profit company.

Seven beautiful small chashitsu tea rooms and machiai waiting rooms were made by a master carpenter in Aichi twenty or so years ago. The wood is yakusugi that he purchased through proper channels and the skill with which these small structures were built is simply extraordinary.
