Our Approach

the cultural and historical context of each structure
-
the perspectives of those connected to it
-
the knowledge and leadership of Japanese craftspeople and specialists
Our goal is not only to preserve structures, but to support the continuation of the cultural practices and relationships that give them meaning.
Organizational Structure
Kominka Collective operates primarily as a nonprofit organization (一般社団法人), supporting research, education, and cultural initiatives related to the preservation of Japan’s built heritage.
When projects require technical coordination or logistical support, these activities are carried out through an affiliated entity (Kominka Collective LLC), working in collaboration with established craftspeople and partner organizations.
This structure allows the nonprofit to focus on public-facing and educational work, while ensuring that complex preservation efforts are supported with appropriate professional expertise.
All activities are guided by a commitment to transparency, cultural respect, and the responsible stewardship of traditional architecture.
